I began dealing in Tribal Rugs in 1978 and until the end of 1980s traveled regularly to source countries. In 1990, in response to the huge influx of mass produced rugs from Iran and the astounding marketing techniques of the sellers I wrote a book which was published in Australia in 1991 by Kangaroo Press, entitled A Guide to Oriental Rugs, ISBN number is 0-86417-375-X. As the title says this was a GUIDE to identifying and appreciating hand made rugs. This book is now quite rare but we have added a small educational page on this site where some basic info from this book is available. Wivine was bought up in a family who ran auction houses in Bruxelles and has one of the best eyes in the business. She has a natural affinity to rugs, having lived with them all her life and has been exposed to the very best of primitive art in Bruxelles. We have been collecting and dealing in Primitive Artifacts since the late 1980s and gained our knowledge from some of the best dealers in the world - mostly the hard way which is by selling to them - but our own collection grew and we continue to search for and purchase many fine Oceanic items. As to Asian ethnographica; no person who has traveled as regularly and widely in South East Asia and from Nepal to as far West as the Bosphorous could ever resist collecting and hoarding some of the amazing and beautiful traditional household and mystico-religious items to found, especially considering I haunted these regions from the late 1970s until the mid 1990s when Wivine also became enthused with them.
